Washing Machine Not Spinning
A washer may cancel or reduce spin to protect itself when the load is unbalanced or water has not drained.
Possible causes
- Unbalanced, too-small or overloaded wash load
- Drainage problem preventing spin
- Door-lock or lid-switch fault
- Drive belt, motor, suspension, bearing or control fault
Safe checks you can try
- Wait until the drum fully stops and the door releases normally.
- Redistribute tangled items and remove excess laundry.
- Confirm the selected programme includes the expected spin speed.
- If water remains inside, follow the not-draining guidance instead.
Safety first
Never force the door, bypass a lock or reach into a moving drum. Stop using the appliance if it shakes violently or makes metal-on-metal sounds.
When professional repair may be needed
Repeated failure with a balanced load can involve the lock, motor, belt, suspension, bearings, wiring or electronics and needs proper diagnosis.
Separate a spin problem from a drainage problem
If water remains in the drum, many machines will restrict or cancel high-speed spin. If the water has drained, note whether the drum turned during washing, attempted to accelerate or stopped after redistributing the load. This sequence is more informative than the final symptom alone.
Compare one balanced load, not repeated test cycles
A single absorbent item, tangled bedding or an overloaded drum can remain unbalanced. Follow the model?s load guidance and try only one suitable balanced load when no safety warning is present.
