Fridge Troubleshooting Guide for Dubai Homes
Cooling problems need timely attention, especially in Dubai heat. This guide explains safe observations you can make before arranging professional refrigerator diagnosis.
Fridge not cooling
Check that the appliance has power, the temperature is correctly set and internal vents are not blocked. Ensure the door closes fully and the appliance has the ventilation clearance required by its manual. Dirty accessible condenser areas can reduce heat rejection, but cleaning must follow the manufacturer instructions.
Freezer works but the refrigerator is warm
Cold air may not be reaching the fresh-food compartment because of blocked vents, heavy frost, a fan problem, a damper fault or a defrost-system issue. Do not chip ice with a sharp object. If a manual defrost is permitted, protect food and follow the manual exactly.
Freezer not freezing
Confirm the setting, door seal and airflow. Warm food loads and frequent door opening can temporarily raise the temperature. Continuing soft food, melting ice or an alarm can indicate a control, fan, compressor or sealed-system fault.
Water leaking from the refrigerator
A blocked defrost drain, damaged water line, overflowing drain pan or door-seal problem may be involved. Disconnect a water supply only when it is safely accessible. Water near plugs, sockets or wiring requires immediate isolation by a competent person.
Heavy frost or ice buildup
Check for packages preventing the door from closing and inspect the visible gasket for gaps or damage. Persistent frost can involve humid air entering the cabinet or a failure in the automatic defrost system.
Noise or continuous running
Clicks, fans and refrigerant movement can be normal, but new grinding, repeated start attempts or continuous operation with poor cooling should be assessed. Dubai summer conditions increase workload, but a healthy refrigerator should still maintain the manufacturer-recommended temperature.
Refrigerant does not simply run out
A refrigerator uses a sealed refrigerant circuit. A low charge normally indicates a leak or previous service issue. Adding refrigerant without finding and addressing the cause is not a complete repair and must only be performed by appropriately trained personnel.
Repair or replace?
Consider food-safety urgency, appliance age, overall condition, repair history, energy consumption, part availability and the approved repair quotation. Compressor or sealed-system work is not automatically uneconomical, but it needs model-specific assessment.
Stop and call for help when
- There is smoke, sparking, a burning smell or repeated electrical tripping.
- Water is reaching a plug, socket, cable or electrical component.
- A gas appliance smells of gas or a safety control is damaged.
- The appliance makes severe grinding or metal-on-metal noise.
- Safe isolation is not possible or you are unsure what to do.
