Dishwasher Troubleshooting Guide for Dubai Homes
Poor cleaning, standing water and leaks are common dishwasher complaints. These safe first checks can help you separate a usage issue from a fault that needs professional attention.
Dishwasher not draining
A small amount of water around the filter can be normal for some models, but a deep pool may point to a blocked filter, kinked drain hose, obstructed sink connection or pump fault. Clean only user-removable parts identified in the manual and never reach into the pump area while connected to power.
Dishes are not coming clean
Avoid blocking spray arms with tall items and scrape large food remains before loading. Check that the filter is seated correctly and the spray arms can rotate. Choose a programme suitable for the soil level and use products recommended for the machine and local water conditions.
White marks, cloudiness and hard-water residue
Mineral deposits can affect glassware and internal components. Set water hardness according to the manual, keep dishwasher salt and rinse aid at the required levels and use the correct detergent dose. Permanent glass etching cannot be removed by descaling.
Dishwasher not drying
Drying varies by programme and machine design. Rinse aid, correct loading and allowing the cycle to finish can improve results. Plastic items retain less heat and often remain wetter. A persistent no-heat problem may involve the heater, sensor, fan or controls.
Dishwasher leaking
Stop the programme and close the water supply if safe. Check the visible door seal, hose connections, level and whether unsuitable detergent has created excess foam. Do not continue operating an appliance that releases water onto electrical points or cabinetry.
Door will not close or programme will not start
Confirm racks and dishes are fully inside, the latch area is clear and the controls are not locked. Never force the latch. A misaligned hinge, damaged lock or electronic fault needs inspection.
Unusual noise or error code
Light swishing and pump sounds are expected. Grinding, repeated clicking or sudden loud noise may indicate an obstruction or component fault. Record the complete error code and model number because code meanings vary by manufacturer.
Repair cost and replacement
The final cost depends on diagnosis, access, labour and parts. Compare the approved quotation with the dishwasher age, condition, previous repairs, part availability and replacement cost rather than relying on an online fixed-price table.
Stop and call for help when
- There is smoke, sparking, a burning smell or repeated electrical tripping.
- Water is reaching a plug, socket, cable or electrical component.
- A gas appliance smells of gas or a safety control is damaged.
- The appliance makes severe grinding or metal-on-metal noise.
- Safe isolation is not possible or you are unsure what to do.
