A dishwasher needs water to reach surfaces and detergent to circulate. Loading, water softening and drying products all affect the result.
Load without blocking movement
Face dirty surfaces toward the spray. Keep tall items away from spray-arm paths and check each arm can turn before starting. Do not nest spoons tightly together. Place light plastics only where the manual allows so they cannot move onto a heater.
Scrape, but do not always pre-wash
Remove bones, seeds and large scraps. Many modern detergents work well when a normal amount of soil remains, while heavy hand-rinsing wastes water. Follow your machine and detergent guidance.
What dishwasher salt does
Dishwasher salt supports the built-in water-softening system. It is not table salt and does not directly season or wash dishes. Set water hardness correctly and refill when indicated. Bosch warns never to put detergent in the salt dispenser because it can damage the system.
What rinse aid does
Rinse aid helps water leave surfaces and supports drying and clear glass results. Adjust its dose if the manual allows: too little may leave water spots, while too much may contribute to streaks or foam.
Use dishwasher detergent only
Never use hand-washing liquid; it creates excessive foam. Choose tablets, powder or liquid made for dishwashers and follow the dose guidance. Combination tablets may not replace separate salt and rinse aid in every water condition.
Unload in a useful order
Allow the drying stage to finish. If your manual recommends it, wait briefly before opening. Unload the lower rack first so water held by upper items does not drip onto dishes below.
