Ice quality depends on clean food-contact areas, water supply, temperature and the machine’s production cycle. Instructions vary greatly between countertop, built-in and commercial units.

Slow or no ice production

Check that the machine is switched on, water is available, the bin is fitted correctly and the selected mode is suitable. A warm room, recent start-up or frequent ice removal can affect production. Do not repeatedly reset a machine that shows an error.

Small or hollow cubes

Small cubes can relate to restricted water flow, temperature, scale or an unsuitable cube-size setting. Check the visible supply valve and hose without dismantling the machine. Use the approved descaling method only.

Taste and smell

Discard old ice, wash the bin and food-contact parts as directed, and replace an approved water filter when due. Never use strong scented chemicals on areas that touch ice.

Cleaning

Unplug the unit if the manual requires it. Use the manufacturer’s cleaning or sanitising procedure and correct chemical concentration. Commercial ice machines may require scheduled professional cleaning.

Water leaks

Stop use if water reaches electrical areas. Check visible hose connections, drain position and whether the bin or reservoir is overfilled. A continuing leak needs attention.

Safety boundary

Do not open sealed refrigeration or electrical sections. Stop for burning smells, power tripping, damaged cables or refrigerant concerns.
